alright, so while i am always looking to play from canon, i'm specifically looking for any interested in playing an au inspired by a 1978 issue of 'what-if?' although it's set in the comics, i've adapted it to the cinema universe. basically it's this: instead of finding the exiled thunder god in the new mexican desert, jane discovers mjolnir and is granted the powers of thor after touching and being deemed worthy by the hammer. immediately afterwards, she is summoned to asgard, where she is shunned and ostracized by the asgardians. obviously the events of the first thor movie and the proceeding movies wildly differ from canon (though loki still falls from the rainbow bridge, still strikes a deal with thanos, and still attempts to conquer earth with an army of chitauri). i haven't figured out what happens to thor if jane hadn't found him (or, additionally, if the events of thor: tdw even occur), but those are worries best left for later discussions (or ignored w/e).

cutting to the chase, though: i'd love to thread with avengers, explore how the events of the movie differ in this au. specifically however, i'd love to thread with a steve rogers. ngl i ship jane and steve but i can write it with a platonic angle if one desires. in addition, i'd love to thread with asgardians, and darcy and erik. uh, i can't exactly explain all the ideas i have for this au here (because of length and whatnot), but i'd absolutely love to play anything from here tbh

I've got a Steve here, and the idea sounds really interesting. I can't guarantee~ shipping will happen, but if they've got chemistry, I can see it happening.

Steve, unfortunately, is very stubborn, and still very shy around women, so anything potentially romantic would take a while to build up. So...as long as you're okay with slow build-up, I can definitely see something start between them.

oh no, it's ok if we don't immediately jump in to shipping. that's more than ok actually! i love that (i much prefer that tbh). i mean — i think the basis of their relationship (shipping or otherwise) will be a general and professional respect and admiration of each other. i think — and i'm not speaking for you or even necessarily steve — but i think that's the basis of the thing between steve and peggy: before he admired or even noticed her beauty, he admired her position, her opinion, her strength.

so a romance definitely won't start immediately between jane and steve, not just because i'd rather play this out and have it as a slow-burn romance but because of the personalities of the two. even though steve's lack of game might make things awkward when it does turn romantic, i think jane would be putting the brakes on the relationship. although she's lived in a warrior culture for the past year (asgard) before meeting steve, she's still wary and hesitant of soldiers (and definitely of s.h.i.e.l.d.) she's still a scientist at heart and, therefore, suspicious of big brother and captain america (especially of the captain america that the right-winged media used/s to inspire blind patriotism). once she gets to know steve rogers though, she'll be less reluctant to start anything with steve (if it does happen).

tl;dr SLOW-BURN ROMANCE IS GOOD. I LOVE IT. PLATONIC IS ALSO GOOD.

Awesome! I do love the idea (what-ifs are always fun) and I'm excited to see where it will go. As long as slow build-up is okay, then yes, I can definitely see something potentially cropping up between them. (I'm just horrendous at writing anything involving CR, especially with Steve.)

Do you know where you want to write this? In journals, or a musebox/other comm, or...? (It's been a while since I had an actual storyline/verse to play, so let's just pretend I don't really know what I'm doing...because that's generally my default anyway. >.>)

ah well, if you're lacking experience in cr and verses, you've come to the right person. i will nitpick this to death, i'll draw out timelines and events that differ. i'll make us start this train from the very beginning, when thordis makes her first appearance on the quinjet as steve, tony, and nat transport loki to the helicarrier. i'll be conducting this crazy train off the cliff, tyvm

i'll start, if you want, prob. at my musebox. is their first meeting during the avengers ok? or, rather, their first real conversation (after the battle of nyc but before she leaves with loki back to asgard)? (we can plan this out through pm if it gets too long but w/e)

I meant to reply to this yesterday, but by the time I got off work, thinking made my head hurt, ugh. [And today apparently is the opposite, where I have too many thoughts, in no particular order.]

You had me at "timelines" XD [omg, timelines, I obsess over them, yes.]

Starting with their first meeting is certainly okay, although I'm wondering just how having Jane be there instead of Thor would change the events of the movie. Not the outcome necessarily, but in the interim. (And I'm only wondering for backstory purposes, so Steve's reactions will make sense. Also, curiosity, because: I love AUs like this.) Would she have done the same thing Thor did when he first appeared, pulling Loki out of the quinjet (thus prompting Tony to go after them)? If so, would she have pulled the same "You want me to put the hammer down?!" thing with Steve? (My first inclination is to say no, but on the other hand she's been living as a god[dess] for the last year, and it's hard not to imagine that going to any human's head, at least some, especially if she'd just been battling Iron Man and the adrenaline was flowing.)

Or, she may have just listened to their explanation and gone with them on the 'jet to the helicarrier. (And OMG, now I'm imagining her interactions with Coulson in Thor's place... if you wouldn't mind, at some point, I would love to play that out, because COULSON. Who I...also happen to play. >.> XD)

It's never clearly shown how long it was between the end of the Battle, and when Thor & Loki head back; they're all wearing different clothes and look healthy, so I'm thinking at least a day or two (as opposed to the post-battle shawarma, where they're so tired they can barely eat, look disheveled and at least minorly injured), so there's certainly some time for them to have at least a couple of chats.

Side question: you called her Thordis, so is that her godly name? Or is she still Jane? I can see it from the comics standpoint, where Thor's alter-ego is Don Blake, so Jane would have an alter-ego as well, but does that carry over to the MCU, and if so, how much? Your thoughts, give them to me.

ok let's break this down, piece by piece:

1) jane's presence there instead of thor's doesn't change the ultimate outcome: the battle of nyc still occurs, loki is still defeated by the avengers, and both loki and the tesseract are returned to asgard. the only difference is the lack of emotional weight in the story (since loki and jane aren't siblings, there isn't that angle or conflict).

2) the battle in the forest doesn't happen. jane appears in the exact way that thor does (with that thunder and lightning and whatnot), but she doesn't grab loki from the quinjet and skedaddle. she knows who tony stark is (the stark expo was happening when she disappeared), she has a faint recollection of captain america (though her first thought will be "who's this loser in the america flag?"), and she knows what s.h.i.e.l.d. is (more on that later). she'll agree to work with them (without the need to destroy some trees), but she'll make it clear that as soon as they find the tesseract and stop loki, she's taking both back to asgard. SHE WILL BE TESTY HOWEVER. traveling between realms by way of dark energy is both painful and dangerous, so she'll be a little frustrated from the pain. not only that, but she has to deal with this motherfucker loki AND s.h.i.e.l.d. (whom she still doesn't trust)? (plus tony's kind of a smartass and that'll grind on anyone's gears after a while but that's neither here nor there.) she'll cool down once they arrive at the helicarrier, but, at first, she won't be happy.

3) jane will help bruce and tony in their search of the tesseract. she's a scientist and she won't pass up a chance to work with two of the greatest scientists of the century (even if earth tech, in hindsight, is primitive compared to asgard's). so really the only difference is that there's another person aiding in the search.

4) i'm thinking that at least a day passes between the battle and loki returning to asgard. they can't stay there too long.

5) thordis is what she calls herself. jane foster is her secret identity, which only asgardians are aware of. people assume she's the god of thunder, people assume the christian monks who wrote down the myths mistook thor for a dude, and jane neither confirms nor denies it. she hasn't revealed her secret identity to anyone, for the same reasons why peter parker or any other superhero doesn't reveal theirs: they don't want the people they love or even people with a passing acquaintance with them to get hurt. additionally, she doesn't want s.h.i.e.l.d. up in her business and whatnot (she still doesn't trust them and it doesn't help that they were using the tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction). she doesn't claim she's asgardian (she refers to them in the third person, saying that "ASGARDIANS want nothing but peace"); she doesn't comment and, as far as anyone knows, thordis is the thunder goddess.

6) jane meets coulson and s.h.i.e.l.d. in puente antiguo, after she defeats the destroyer (aka a reason why jane doesn't tell anyone her real identity because loki knew and he sent the destroyer to hurt and kill innocent people). s.h.i.e.l.d. is in puente antiguo for the same reason they were in regular canon: they detected strange spatial anomalies and came to investigate. while they don't find the hammer, they do hear that dr jane foster (an expert in spatial anomalies) has gone missing and THAT'S not a coincidence. (idk what happens with thor; i'm thinking that he gets picked up by the puente antiguo police and is taken down to the station because he has no id and he joins up with erik and darcy when they report jane missing. idk if thor claims he's the god of thunder or if he decides to continue jane's research or what. jane doesn't know what happens to him, so i guess it's not important right now.)

7) personality wise, jane's changed. obviously someone would change after going through this experience. she's a little guarded and distrustful around people (the last time she trusted someone (loki), he betrayed her then tried to kill her), and especially because of her secret identity. additionally, she's a little more tough, abrasive, and defensive towards people; she's faced adversity before as a female scientist but she's facing even more as not just a female warrior but a HUMAN warrior wielding mjolnir. also, asgardians are different than humans: they're tasteless, hardy, old, a little more unforgiving. they're a different kind of personality than humans, and spending a year with just them will rub off on anyone. lastly, jane's confident in her fighting skills. if tony challenged her to a fight, jane would be more than confident in her ability to beat him. maybe she's a little cocky, but it's nothing even approaching the ego thor had: jane will deliver a clever one-liner before she defeats someone, but that's it really. IN SUMMARY, at her core, jane is still the same person: infinitely passionate and curious, caring, kind, and strong.

i was thinking... would you rather set this post-avengers, pre-thor 2 (well... a little before when the events of thor 2 would've taken place; idk if it still does, but the aether does need to end up in the collector's hands somehow)? cos i was thinking that jane needs to return. like jane as jane, not thordis. then maybe a few weeks later, jane as thordis returns?
