The Hale family is big in the novel, so who's to say it isn't in the show? He's related via his father - Joeseph - who was Peter and Talia's brother. His parents were killed by Peter pre-season 1 on the quest for Alpha status, but Johnathan doesn't know this. I play him around S3 since that's when he gets back to Beacon Hills, but that can be discussed. Have a full profile in his journal.
